Ceylon Tree Nymph (Idea iasonia)

The Ceylon Tree Nymph is one of Sri Lanka's distinctive forest butterflies.

Tree nymphs are closely associated with vegetation and forest habitats. Their presence reflects the importance of maintaining natural plant communities rather than isolated patches of habitat.

A rainforest supports an intricate web of relationships between plants, insects, birds, mammals and microorganisms. Protecting forest therefore protects thousands of interactions that cannot easily be recreated after a forest has been cleared.
