2024 Year-End Update from Rainforest Protectors Trust

Having protected 6 tracts of forest lands and expanding the protected buffer zone of Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest in Sri Lanka to 30 acres, Rainforest Protectors Trust focused on acquiring a suitable land towards setting up our first Rainforest Conservation and Education Center. By May 2024 a suitable land was found and surveyed by Rainforest Protectors Trust, after which the seller pulled out of the transaction and opted not to sell. As per the information received, certain anti-environmental individuals engaged in sand mining and logging activities in the area have been involved. It was a major setback since the selected land was ideal for a Conservation and Education Center.

Despite the challenges, Rainforest Protectors Trust continued its search for suitable lands in the area and towards the end of the year, was able to find another suitable land for the Rainforest Conservation and Education Center as well as two other large forest lands 5 acres and 12 acres in extent that are on sale and needs immediate conservation.

Due to recent high level of inflation, the cost of land has also risen in the area. Rainforest Protectors Trust is currently focusing on using its existing funds towards purchasing a suitable land for the Rainforest Conservation and Education Center. As such, we are urgently seeking companies with corporate sustainable initiatives and individual donors to help fund the purchase and conservation of the above forest lands that are currently on sale.

We wish to thank all our donors and supporters for your contributions. With several thousand acres of primary forest in the area still remaining unprotected, we are just at the begining stages of this conservation initiative. As we progress on protecting threatened rainforests, we are also taking steps to ensure these habitats stay protected in perpetuity through frequent monitoring. "Rainforest Guardians" are at the heart of this vital effort, hired from the surrounding community and trained to monitor the protected area. We hope you will continue to support us in 2025 and help recruit your friends and family join and be part of this conservation story.
